How our data works

Every figure starts with the public county appraisal roll, the same record your appraisal district uses to set your tax. When you enter your address, we compare your assessed value to recent sales and assessments of genuinely comparable homes nearby, adjusted for size, age, and condition. That's the unequal-appraisal standard Texas Appraisal Review Boards weigh under Tax Code §41.43(b)(3).

How the big contingency firms charge

This isn't the main point of the page, but it's worth a look before you sign anywhere. What to check before you sign with any appeal service

Four questions. Ask them of us, ask them of anyone. The answers tell you almost everything.

  • Is it a contingency percentage? If they take a cut of your savings, run the math on a real reduction. A percentage taken every year compounds against you. A flat fee does not.
